Aiways (Chinese: 爱 驰 汽车) is a Chinese automobile manufacturer with headquarters in Shanghai and a European agency in Munich . The company builds electric cars and uses artificial intelligence .

history

The company was founded in 2017 in Shanghai by Samuel Fu (President) and Gary Gu (CEO).

Aiways Automobile Europe GmbH was founded as a subsidiary in Europe in 2019 . Dr. Alexander Carsten Klose (Executive Vice President Overseas Operations) heads the European business.

The name Aiways is made up of two parts. The "Ai" refers to artificial intelligence and stands for the brand's technology . At the same time it means love in Chinese . "Ways" English for "streets" or "ways" denotes the specific route and lifestyle .

Sales strategy

Sales of the vehicles produced in Shangrao started in China in December 2019. In Europe, the first models are expected to go on sale from mid-2020. Instead of being transported by ship, the vehicles are to be transported by train, which will reduce the transport time from six weeks to 16 days.

The vehicles are to be sold in Germany via Euronics Germany . The maintenance and spare parts logistics are to be taken over by the cooperation partner ATU .

Charging infrastructure

In April 2020, the company presented a charging robot called “Carl” to expand the charging infrastructure of battery-electric vehicles. The driver of an electric car orders a charging process via a smartphone app. The robot then finds the vehicle in question using GPS data and can charge it. After a charging process, the robot drives back to its base station in order to be able to be charged again, for example at a stationary connection. “Carl” is to be used on company premises, among other things.

vehicles

The brand's first vehicle is the 4.68 m long electric SUV Aiways U5 . It was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019 and has been on sale in China since December 2019.

The manufacturer describes the concept vehicle Aiways U6 Ion Concept , which is based on the U5 and which was to be presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2020, as the SUV coupé . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the vehicle could not be delivered from China to Europe, which is why the presentation should be made live in Geneva. Since Switzerland banned events with more than 1000 participants due to the epidemic on February 28, 2020, the Geneva Motor Show was canceled. The planned press conference finally took place on March 3, 2020 in Leonberg .

Gumpert Aiways Automobile

Gumpert Aiways Automobile is a subsidiary based in Ingolstadt , which is managed by Roland Gumpert . The RG Nathalie methanol fuel cell vehicle is the company's first model.
