Foton is a vehicle brand from the People's Republic of China .

Brand history

This brand name has been used for automobiles since the end of 2003 . Manufacturers on the one hand, the company was founded on 28 August 1996 Foton Motor of Beijing and also Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive . Mainly commercial vehicles are offered. In contrast, relatively few passenger cars are produced.

At first there was the five-seater pick-up BJ 1027 .

In 2003 the SUV BJ 6488 M16 Chonglang (Surfing) was added. It offered either five or seven seats and was redesigned in 2004.

The next five-seater pick-up followed in March 2005 with the BJ 1027 V2M Ollin .

In September 2005 the SUV Chuanqi (Saga) was added, which was based on the aforementioned pick-up.

In 2006, the MP-X Mengpaike minivan was presented at the Beijing Motor Show. It went into production in March 2007. There is a choice of a normal version as BJ 6476 and a longer version with nine seats as BJ 6526 .

In 2007 the BJ 6438 Mengpaike Midi was presented at the Moscow Motor Show.

In 2008 the five-seat pick-up BJ 1027 Sapu appeared .

The following models have been known for the past few years: Saga (2003-2010), MPX (since 2007), Midi (2009-2016), Sauvana (since 2015), Gratour ix5 and ix7 (since 2016) as well as Gratour im6 and im8 (2017-2018).

For 2003, 2000 cars and 8000 pick-ups have been handed down. In 2004 there were 2,977 cars and 15,000 pick-ups.

Another source gives total figures for the years from 2005 to 2007 without specifying the vehicle types. The numbers of 287,942, 303,573 and 413,444 are significantly higher.
