Beiqi Foton Motor , previously Beiqi Futian Automobile , is a manufacturer of motor vehicles from the People's Republic of China .
Company history
The company was founded on August 28, 1996 in Beijing . It was an amalgamation of several small companies and belongs to the Beijing Automotive Group . In 1998 the production of commercial vehicles began . The brand name was initially Beijing with the addition of Futian . In 2002 passenger cars were added. At the end of 2003 the brand name was changed to Foton . It is not known when the company name was changed.
Between 2005 and 2007 a total of over 1,000,000 vehicles were produced. They were mostly commercial vehicles.
In 2012, the Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive joint venture was founded with Daimler AG .
The brand name Borgward was acquired in 2014 and has been used for vehicles since 2016.
