The FFH area Schäferhaus foundation areas is a NATURA 2000 protected area in Schleswig-Holstein . It has an area of 107 ha and is located in the western urban area of Flensburg . It is part of the Foundation's Country Schaferhaus the Nature Conservation Foundation Schleswig-Holstein . The FFH area was used as a military training area for the Bundeswehr until 1998 .

FFH area history and nature conservation area

The NATURA 2000 standard data sheet for this FFH area Schäferhaus foundation areas was created in June 2004 by the State Office for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas (LLUR) of the State of Schleswig-Holstein, and in September 2004 by the EU nature conservation authority as an area of community importance ( GGB), confirmed by the EU as GGB in November 2007 and confirmed nationally as a special conservation area (BEG) in January 2010 according to Section 32 Paragraphs 2 to 4 BNatSchG in conjunction with Section 23 LNatSchG. On January 14, 2011, the management plan for the FFH area of the Schäferhaus foundation area was published by the then Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas of the State of Schleswig-Holstein. This is updated continuously. On the east side of the FFH area this overlaps on a small part with the landscape part no. 7 " Am Mückenteich ", a nature reserve of the city of Flensburg.

FFH conservation object

The FFH conservation object as of 2006 are the following 2 FFH habitat types of Annex I of the FFH Directive of particular importance:

  • 4030 Dry Heath
  • 6230 Species-rich marshes of grass

as well as an FFH habitat type of Annex I of the Habitats Directive of importance :

  • 9190 Old acidic oak forests on sandy plains with English oak (no longer included in the standard data sheet as of May 2019)

FFH conservation objectives

All of the above-mentioned FFH conservation objects have also been declared conservation objectives. The FFH conservation objectives as of 2006 are therefore the following 2 FFH habitat types in Annex I of the FFH Directive of particular importance :

  • 4030 Dry Heath
  • 6230 Species-rich marshes of grass

as well as an FFH habitat type of Annex I of the Habitats Directive of importance :

  • 9190 Old acidic oak forests on sandy plains with English oak (no longer included in the standard data sheet as of May 2019)

In 2010 the habitat and biotope types were recorded and mapped.

FFH analysis and assessment

The information on the distribution of the habitat type dry heath (code 4030) has changed significantly over the years. If an area of 10 ha was shown in the management plan (as of 2005), it is only 2.7 ha in the current standard data sheet for the EU (as of May 2019). If the habitat type species-rich grasslands (code 6230) was identified during the first mapping ( As of 2001), it was 2 ha in 2005. In the standard data sheet (as of May 2019) it is 6.9 ha. If one compares the aerial photos from the corresponding periods, one hardly sees any differences in the vegetation. This indicates a strong uncertainty in the interpretation of the habitat types.
The FFH analysis and evaluation is intended to provide information for future conservation and development measures.

FFH catalog of measures

The measures already carried out as well as planned and desirable are described in the 2011 management plan. The focus is on keeping the steppe-like grass landscape open through extensive grazing with robust cattle and goats by the tenant Bunde Wischen, as well as preventing the spread of invasive species that are not typical of the area. The individual measures are also documented in detail in measures sheets and in two maps. The wish to expand the area and declare it a new nature reserve had not yet been fulfilled by June 2020.

FFH success control and monitoring of the measures

In Schleswig-Holstein, the implementation of the measures is randomly checked every 6 years. The last publication of a monitoring for this FFH area took place on February 10, 2012 by the planning office Mordhorst-Brettschneider GmbH as a text contribution with two maps about the habitat and biotope types.
