MG is a car brand from the People's Republic of China .
Brand history
Originally, MG was a British car brand owned by Rover . After its bankruptcy , the Chinese Nanjing Automobile Group took over the factory facilities and the trademark rights to MG for 53 million pounds sterling in July 2005 . In March 2006, Nanjing MG Automotive was founded in Nanjing . In March 2007 the production of automobiles started there . From May 2007 to 2016, some models were finalized at MG Motor UK in Birmingham . There were also plans for a production facility in Oklahoma , USA .
In 2007 or April 2008, SAIC Motor from Shanghai bought Nanjing and has continued production ever since. SAIC combines Roewe and MG in its SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle department .
