The Aiways U5 is a battery-electric powered sport utility vehicle from the Chinese car manufacturer Aiways .
history
The production version of the SUV was presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2019 in March 2019 . The vehicle has been sold in China since the end of 2019. From April 2020, the U5 should also be offered in Germany at prices from 35,000 euros. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , Aiways postponed the start of sales in February 2020 to August 2020. The first deliveries are to take place in October 2020. The vehicle received the necessary certifications for registration in Europe in November 2019.
Production and sales
Instead of by ship, the vehicles built in Shangrao, China , are to be transported by train. This is intended to reduce the transport time from six weeks to 16 days. A classic dealer network should not be built. Instead, the SUV should only be able to be ordered over the Internet, and partner companies should organize test drives.
technology
The interior of the five-seater is almost switchless. There is only a rotary pushbutton for starting the vehicle and operating a touchscreen . There is also biometric technology that can be used to open the doors.
The U5 is powered by a 140 kW (190 PS) electric motor on the front axle, which should accelerate the SUV to 100 km / h in ten seconds. The maximum speed is Aiways with 160 km / h. The vehicle has a 65 kWh lithium-ion battery from CATL as standard , which should enable a range of 503 km according to the NEDC . In addition, the manufacturer offers a battery pack of around 20 kWh for rent, which is intended to increase the range by 100 km. The batteries can be charged to 80 percent in 40 minutes.
safety
At the end of 2019, the SUV was tested for vehicle safety by Euro NCAP . The car received three stars out of five.
