The RG Nathalie is a sports car with methanol fuel cell technology from the Ingolstadt company Gumpert Aiways Automobile, which is run by Roland Gumpert .

history

The company was founded in 2017 as a joint venture . The Nathalie was presented at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2018. The Nathalie Race version designed for the racetrack was presented by the company at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019.

The sports car is named after Roland Gumpert's eldest daughter Nathalie Gumpert. A total of 500 copies of the almost 500,000 euro vehicle are to be built. Series production started in 2020, and the first customer deliveries are to take place in the first half of 2021.

technology

The Nathalie is powered by four 100 kW (136 hp) electric motors from Bosch . Each is positioned on a wheel, which means that the sports car has all-wheel drive . The vehicle has a range of around 300 km using a 60 kWh battery in the vehicle floor , which is charged from the power supply. In addition, a 55-liter tank for a 60:40 methanol-water mixture is installed, which serves as a range extender. This mixture reacts in a fuel cell with oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water . The Nathalie should consume around nine liters of this mixture per 100 km. Insofar as the methanol is produced from renewable sources , it is a neutral CO 2 cycle. Overall, the range of the Nathalie should be up to 1200 km.

The processes in the fuel cell can be described chemically as follows:

Anode reaction:

Cathode reaction:

Overall reaction:

Another advantage of the methanol-water mixture is stated that it can be obtained from the existing filling station infrastructure. Since it is already liquid at normal pressure, it should be sufficient to wash the tank once and then fill it with the fuel. In addition, a tank of a motor vehicle should be filled in a few minutes. In the future, every customer who lives in a city with over 100,000 inhabitants should be able to refuel at a methanol filling station. For this purpose, the manufacturer plans to convert a diesel dispenser to methanol and to lease this dispenser. The fuel is to be delivered directly to customers in rural areas. The purchase price also includes the fuel mix for one year.

Despite the 450 kg battery, the mass of the sports car is less than 1600 kg. This is achieved, among other things, by a tubular space frame and a body made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic . The Nathalie MacPherson has struts on the front axle and double wishbones on the rear axle .

Technical specifications

Gumpert Aiways Automobile states the top speed of the Nathalie is up to 300 km / h. The sports car should accelerate to 100 km / h in 2.5 seconds. In order to achieve this acceleration or top speed, the car has two forward gears. The system output of the electric motors is 408 kW (555 PS).
