Chery Automobile ( Chinese  奇瑞 汽车 , Pinyin Qí Ruì qìchē ) is a state-owned Chinese vehicle manufacturer.

history

Chery was founded on January 8, 1997 in Wuhu by the government of the Anhui Province of China . The first vehicle rolled off the production line in 1999. With almost 170,000 vehicles shipped abroad, Chery was the largest Chinese vehicle exporter in 2011.

The manufacturer became more widely known around the world in September 2006 when it became known that DaimlerChrysler had found a new Chinese partner in Chery. Inexpensive small cars produced by Chery in China should be sold under the Dodge brand in the United States.

As of 2008, some of the manufacturer's models were produced and sold in Egypt as Speranza . They represented their own brand there, although the Chery logo is used on these vehicles. In the Russian Federation, Chery plans to make a name for itself under the new brand name Vortex .

Chery will also do business with the Fiat group in the future. The previous letter of intent provides that Fiat will purchase 1.6 and 1.8 liter petrol engines from Chery for Fiat production in China. There should be at least 100,000 units per year.

The Qoros joint venture with the Israeli conglomerate Israel Corporation , as a subsidiary of the Ofer Brothers Group , exists to develop vehicles with Western standards for the domestic market and for export.

Research and patent applications

Chery Automobile is one of the fastest growing manufacturers of passenger cars and tractors in China and is considered the national leader in exports. Last but not least, Chery currently operates two Chinese research centers and invests a considerable portion (7%) of its total turnover in innovations. This development can also be recognized in recent years from the increasing number of patent and utility model registrations. In 2007, Chery applied for over 400 patents and utility models. This corresponds to an increase of over 200% compared to the previous year.

vehicles

The company sells its vehicles under the Chery , Jetour and Karry brands .
