The Bal Haf volcanic field fills most of this image of a NASA astronaut aboard a space shuttle.  Dark colored lava fields make up the main part of this volcanic field and create an irregular coastline.  Two large tuff cones are visible along the coast in the top left of the picture, the upper one contains a crater lake.

The Bal Haf volcanic field is located on the coast of the Gulf of Aden , in southern Yemen about 100 kilometers southwest of the city of Al-Mukalla . Basaltic lava flows and ash cones cover the volcanic area. The highest point is formed with 233 meters by the ash cone At-Tabab, which has a crater with a diameter of 1.5 kilometers. Another nearby ash cone has a crater lake .

There are no reliable scientific data on outbreaks.
