Previous model | Polski Fiat 125p |
The Polonez is a mid-range car produced by the Polish manufacturer FSO between 1978 and 2002 . The name Polonez was derived from the dance of the polonaise . The most common variant is a five-door station wagon with the mechanical components of the Polski Fiat 125p . The shape of the car is reminiscent of the Fiat ESV 2000, one of the ESV ( "Experimental Safety Vehicles" ) studies of the 1970s designed for optimized pedestrian protection . A pick-up version was introduced in 1987, a station wagon version in 1994 and a 4-door sedan in 1996. Giorgio Giugiaro designed the body .
Originally the Polonez was supposed to replace all variants of the Fiat / FSO 125p model, the production of which was then continued until 1991, with both models being revised several times during this time. Most of the revisions had to be done at the same time, as both models shared the platform. The FSO Polonez was exported to many countries under various names, such as Celine , Caro and Prima and in later years of production as Classic . In the Federal Republic of Germany the vehicle was imported from Promotor GmbH , a subsidiary of the German Fiat.
As one of the last Polish vehicles for the mass market, the Polonez was often procured by authorities such as the police (withdrawn by July 1, 2009), fire brigade and rescue services.
