Myriad is the name of a font designed by Robert Slimbach and Carol Twombly for Adobe Type in 1992 . It is one of the humanistic sans serif fonts.
The Myriad was mainly influenced by the Frutiger and therefore looks similar to it, but can be easily distinguished , for example, by the round i- dot.
Originally it was developed as one of the first multiple master fonts and was consequently published in this format, but has now appeared in the usual font formats because multiple masters did not catch on. The font family was expanded considerably in the late 1990s under the name Myriad Pro and expanded in the OpenType format; it consists of 46 font styles .
The Myriad Web font variant, which is optimized for screen display , is supplied with the Adobe Web Type Pro font package . It is also included in the Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 2.0 program, the Myriad Web Pro version 3.0. The Adobe Photoshop Album is offered with Adobe Reader .
Surname
The name comes from Myriad , what u. a. stands for an innumerable quantity, in this case for the infinite font styles that could be created with the multiple master technique of the time .
Use (examples)
The design of the publications of Springer-Wissenschaftsverlag has been determined by Myriad since the early 1990s.
They also replaced since the launch of Xserve 2002, Apple Garamond , under the name Myriad Set as typeface in the corporate design of Apple .
The companies Rolls-Royce , LinkedIn and Mashable also use the font in their text logos.
variants
There is a Myriad Pro, a Myriad Set (only used by Apple). The Podium Sans designed by Apple is almost identical to the Myriad.
The Latin glyphs of the Japanese Kozuka Gothic and the Chinese Adobe Heiti correspond to those of the Myriad.
