history

Mashable was founded by Pete Cashmore from his home in Aberdeen , Scotland , in July 2005. The Time magazine named Mashable among the "25 Best Blogs 2009" (OT: "25 best blogs of 2009"), while the website as a one-stop shop Media describes the social. In January 2016, the official Twitter page had over 6,400,000 "followers" and over 3,340,000 "fans" on Facebook . In November 2017, it was reported that the portal would be sold to Ziff Davis for $ 50 million , with the site being valued at $ 250 million in 2016. The purchase was finally reported in December.

Mashable Awards

On November 27, 2007, Mashable launched their first international Open Web Awards, highlighting the best online communities and services. The election took place on the website. On January 10, 2008, at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco , Mashable announced the winners of the first Open Web Awards, including Digg , Facebook, Google , Twitter, YouTube , ESPN , Cafemom and Pandora .

The second edition of the Open Web Awards was an international online competition that took place between November and December 2008. The People's Choice category winners were Encyclopedia Dramatica , Digg won again, this time in the Social News and Social Bookmarking category, Netlog were the Mainstream and Large Social Networks category winners, and MySpace was the winner the Places and Events category.

The third edition took place in November and December 2009. The winners included Pandora Radio for Best Mobile Music Site or App , Fish Wrangler for Best Facebook Game and "Surprise Marriage Proposal in Spain" for Best YouTube Video.

In 2010 the previous "Open Web Awards" were renamed the fourth edition of the "Mashable Awards". The Mashable Awards officially started on September 27, 2010 with nominations in the categories Best Mobile Game , Best Use of an API , Best Web Video and Most Promising New Company and Entrepreneur of the Year . The winners include Angry Birds , HootSuite in the Best Social Media Management Tool category , Android as Best Mobile Platform and the iPad as Best Gadget .
