Angry Birds (English for angry birds is) a series of artillery computer games , which the Finnish development studio Rovio Entertainment Ltd. and the first offshoot was published in December 2009. The games are available for numerous operating systems and device platforms .
Gameplay
The player takes control of a number of birds that want to retrieve their stolen eggs from pigs . In each level you have to use a sling to shoot the birds at the pigs' hiding places in wood, stone and ice. Points are awarded for each destroyed object. The primary goal of each level is to destroy all pigs. Upon completion of a level, up to three stars are awarded depending on the number of points achieved. Earning three stars on each level is an optional goal. As the game progresses, new birds with individual properties are unlocked. The type, number and order of the birds is predetermined for each level. Each level can be repeated as often as you like. The levels are grouped thematically into episodes , with each episode divided into two to three chapters.
Birds
Nine directly playable birds are available in the game, as well as a chargeable special bird that is not available on all platforms. Some birds have special functions that are triggered by clicking or tapping the touchscreen . The following table lists the birds with their special characteristics, sorted according to their unlocking sequence in the game.

In the Facebook variant, there are special skills that the player can use. These skills can only be used once per level attempt, but they are very powerful. These skills can also be acquired for money. Gifts in the form of skills are given out for friends invited to Angry Birds and for regular play. The aim is to keep the highest number of points per level of all friends who have been invited by a player to Angry Birds and can be seen in a high score. For every first place the player is rewarded with a golden crown, which, however, does not yet fulfill any function.

Platforms
The game was originally developed for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch and was later released on the Nokia N900 , HP webOS , bada , Android , Symbian ^ 3 , Windows , Windows Phone 7 , macOS , the Blackberry Playbook , the PlayStation 3 , PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Portable ported using SDL . The variants of the game for Apple devices support Apple's game network Game Center . A board game was released in May 2011 .
The game has been downloaded over 500 million times across all platforms and is the best-selling program for the iPhone and iPad after Doodle Jump .
Angry Birds is also represented in the Chrome Web Store and Google+ . On February 14, 2012, Angry Birds was also activated for Facebook with additional game functions, exclusive Facebook levels and social elements.

In October 2010, Rovio published the Angry Birds Seasons offshoot . The game contains levels that are thematically tailored to specific holidays and similar occasions in the year. The following episodes have appeared so far:

Angry Birds Rio
In March 2011, Angry Birds Rio, another variant with 60 levels, was released, which is based on the animated film Rio , which was released in cinemas in April 2011, and its successor, Rio 2 . The game now has 180 levels thanks to several updates. Furthermore, there are 15 more "hidden" levels in Angry Birds Rio, which can be unlocked by purchasing the film Rio by code or activated by a shot of an Angry Bird at a certain point.
Angry Birds Space
On March 22, 2012, Angry Birds Space was the fourth part of the series, the official presentation of which was on March 8, 2012. According to Rovio, players can look forward to "a completely new game with innovative new gameplay". To present the game, Rovio even entered into a cooperation with the US space agency NASA . In a specially made video clip, the astronaut Don Pettit catapults the plush version of an Angry Bird through the International Space Station. The following episodes have appeared so far:

- "Solar System" 3 chapters each with 5 levels and 2 bonus levels (each level corresponds to a component of our solar system.)
In addition, there are bonus levels, on the one hand for each complete chapter and on the other hand the so-called Eggsteroids , which are hidden in some regular levels.
Angry Birds: Star Wars I and II
With Angry Birds: Star Wars , another variant appeared on November 8, 2012, the visual design of which is based on the epic Star Wars . The PlayStation 4 was also given a commercial version for the official launch on November 29, 2013. The following episodes have already appeared:

Furthermore, the game contains 17 bonus levels, which are unlocked by reaching a certain number of stars or by finding hidden Golden Droids .
The next variant, Angry Birds Star Wars II , was released on September 18, 2013. The trailer was uploaded to YouTube on July 15, 2013 from the official Star Wars channel. Now it is possible for the first time to join the pigs ( The Pork Side ) and more than 30 characters are playable. It is also possible to replace the given characters with others. The following episodes have already appeared:

In addition, there is another episode with a bonus level for each character, which are unlocked as soon as a certain number of points is achieved with the respective character.
Angry Birds Go!
On December 11, 2013, Angry Birds Go! to. The special feature of this game is that it is a kind of racing game or soapbox race. It has five chapters:

Angry Birds Epic
On June 12, 2014, another offshoot appeared for the Android, iOS and Windows Phone platforms: Angry Birds Epic . After Angry Birds go! Rovio ventured into a new genre again: Angry Birds Epic is an RPG . It contains the familiar characters from the Angry Birds games. With five birds ("Red", "Jim, Jake & Jay", "Chuck", "Bomb" and "Matilda") you fight in turn against the pigs and try to fight back the eggs they stole.
Angry Birds Stella
On September 5, 2014, the next offshoot of the series appeared with the name Angry Birds Stella .
Angry Birds Transformers
In October 2014, the side-scroller shoot 'em up Angry Birds Transformers was released . It's a crossover between Angry Birds and Transformers .

Planned and special offshoots
In August 2012, another variant of Angry Birds was presented with the so-called Green Day Special Edition , which can only be played on Facebook . It is dedicated to the rock band of the same name Green Day and contains the song Oh Love .
Angry Birds: Trilogy , a compilation of the games Angry Birds , Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio for Xbox 360 , PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS was released on September 28, 2012 . In addition, 19 more exclusive levels, as well as new cut scenes and background information have been added. The game supports Kinect as well as PlayStation Move . The porting to the game consoles was done by Activision .
In May 2016, the animated film based on the game, Angry Birds - The Film, was released in cinemas.

The series was largely positively received by the trade press.
“I was enthusiastic about the game from the first second. Some of the levels were tricky but never frustrating. The level design is well thought out and it is fun to find the ideal way to solve the problem and to trigger a chain reaction with the objects. What bothered me was the inability to listen to my own music and podcasts. After a few minutes I could no longer hear the noises of birds and ravens. "
“The game impresses with a simple principle, which over time becomes quite addicting. Angry Birds is definitely one of the best games for Android. "
criticism
When it comes to data protection, the game also attracts attention. Among other things, the program transmits the user name, the password, the current location, the address book and the ID of the smartphone to the manufacturer. The manufacturer's terms and conditions allow this data to be passed on to third parties. The popular app came under fire in particular at the beginning of 2014, as publications by the US whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed that the NSA and GCHQ secret services were using the app to spy on a lot of personal data of users. Rovio then denied both knowledge of this espionage and joint activities with the secret services.
