The Opel Astra K is a car - model of the compact class of the car manufacturer Opel and the successor to the Opel Astra . The car was presented to the public at the IAA 2015 in Frankfurt am Main . The vehicle has been produced in the Opel / Vauxhall plants in Ellesmere Port in the UK and in Gleiwitz in Poland since July 2015 . In November 2015 it was awarded the golden steering wheel in the compact car class. In 2016, the Astra was also named European Car of the Year (Car of the Year) , the most important European automobile award. In China the vehicle is sold as the Buick Verano , in Australia as the Holden Astra .
The Astra K was revised in 2019.
history
The fifth generation of the Astra celebrated its world premiere at the IAA in September 2015. At the same time as the five-door model, Opel also presented the Sports Tourer at the exhibition , which has been available to order from Opel dealers since October 10, 2015. There is no longer a sedan (notchback) of the Astra K. The sedan of its predecessor, the Astra J , continued to be sold until 2018 , after which the sedan was discontinued without replacement.
In September 2017, the Astra reached second place in Europe, and even first place in some countries, for registrations.
On July 3, 2019, Opel presented the facelift model of the Astra K.
Opel already announced at the end of June 2019 that the successor model should come onto the market in 2021 and, like the Astra J , will be built again in Rüsselsheim , it will continue to be built in Ellesmere Port . The successor will be based on a PSA platform for the first time .
Model variants
- five-door hatchback (since July 2015)
- five-door station wagon (Sports Tourer; since October 2015)
technology
Lightweight construction made it possible to save 120 to 200 kg in weight, with the Sports Tourer 1.4 Ecotec DI Turbo (Direct Injection Turbo), for example, a total of around 135 kg. Ultra- high-strength steels, which also contribute to weight reduction, defined load paths , and side impact protection ensure safety , cf. Five-star result of the NCAP crash test. The c w value of 0.272 is known for the Sports Tourer . With the 2019 facelift, the value was improved to 0.25 (hatchback 0.26).
The B14XFL and T engines, a four-cylinder new design with a displacement of approx. 1.4 l made entirely of aluminum, use turbocharging and direct injection . There is also a turbocharged 3-cylinder gasoline engine with approx. 1 l displacement ("B10XFL") and, with the B14XE, an engine without turbocharging. There is also a choice of diesel engines, see technical data, which achieve a B or A + rating with regard to efficiency. With the 2019 facelift, new three-cylinder engines will be used, all of which meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.
The battery was placed in the trunk for better weight distribution. The electric steering works depending on the speed. From 125 hp, Opel uses a rear axle with a Watt linkage .
Furnishing
An adaptive LED front light system with intelligent high beam (“IntelliLux Matrix light”) and LED rear lights are available as special equipment. There is an infotainment system with a touchscreen in sizes of 7 and 8 inches. It works with Android and Apple smartphones via Android Auto and Apple Car Play.
services
The Astra K can be expanded to include the OnStar online service , with which Opel offers various services such as an emergency call and other services, including a parking garage or hotel search.
The service will be discontinued on December 31, 2020, as this is still a GM service and Opel has been part of PSA since 2017 .
Instead, Opel will start the Astra K Facelift from 2019 with the Opel Connect service , which has the same functions as OnStar.
Others
An ergonomic seat with the AGR seal of approval (Aktion Gesunderback eV) (optional equipment in most versions) is available for the driver and front passenger.
