The Opel 1.3 liter was a car model from Adam Opel AG in Rüsselsheim .

history

At the end of 1933, two prototypes of the internally known Opel Type 1397 model with a 24 hp 1.3 liter engine were created.

Like its predecessor, the 1.2 liter car, developed jointly by Opel and General Motors , had a box frame with a crossbar. The aerodynamic body with curved fenders and trunk accessible from the outside the model had in common with the Opel 6, which was released at the same time . Like this, the new car also had hydraulically operated brakes (previously cable operated) and instead of the front rigid axle, independent wheel suspension with " Dubonnet spring knees ": the front wheels were suspended from swing arms that were mounted in oil-filled, horizontally swiveling pressed steel housings for steering. The coil springs and shock absorber pistons were housed in the housing.

The higher engine power was achieved by a bore that was enlarged by 2.5 mm , which resulted in a displacement of 1288 cm³. By autumn 1935, Adam Opel AG in Rüsselsheim had built 29,002 Opel 1.3 liter cars , which were replaced by the Opel Olympia . The direct competitor was the Adler Trumpf Junior 1G , which was 180 RM cheaper.
