The Opel Mokka A is a compact SUV from GM Korea based on the Gamma II platform , which was manufactured from mid-2012 to mid-2019. The model has been in mainland Europe under the brand Opel offered in the UK as a Vauxhall Mokka , and in North America and China as Buick Encore . The successor model Mokka B was presented in June 2020.
Model history
Opel Mocha
The name mocha is derived from a type of coffee preparation . The SUV is located in the model range below the Opel Antara . The model series is not based on the Opel Corsa D , but among other things on technical components of the Meriva and Insignia . The model was launched across Europe on October 6, 2012.
The vehicle is technically closely related to the Chevrolet Trax , which is sold as the Holden Trax in Australia and Oceania . The body of the Trax is slightly different.
Until autumn 2014, all GM Korea variants were produced at the Bupyeong-gu, Incheon plant in South Korea . From Incheon, the vehicles are brought to Europe by sea in car transporters . The port of Antwerp is the main hub in Europe . Due to the great demand, GM began to produce the model in Figueruelas, Spain, from autumn 2014 and at the same time to expand its capacities in South Korea.
Opel Mokka X
At the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016, the revised version of the Mocha, which is now known as the Mokka X, was presented. A new 1.4-liter gasoline engine with 112 kW (152 PS), 6-speed automatic transmission and adaptive all-wheel drive is also available.
The revised model was available from dealers since September 24, 2016. The vehicle was as Mocha X sold.
Production of the Mokka X was discontinued in June 2019. The successor Mokka B was presented in June 2020. This is now based on the PSA platform CMP .
