The Opel 25/40 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG from 1907 to 1909 as a successor to the model 35/40 PS built.

History and technology

The 25/40 PS had grown in length compared to the previous model. The engine turned out to be 0.5 liters smaller while maintaining the same output.

It was a four - cylinder block engine composed of two blocks with a displacement of 6334 cm³ (bore × stroke = 120 mm × 140 mm), the 40 hp (29 kW) at 1500 rpm. performed. The side-controlled T-head motor was water-cooled and the cooling water was circulated by a centrifugal pump. The piston slide carburetor had a pre-heating of the fuel-air mixture. Each cylinder had two spark plugs, one from a battery ignition and the other from a magneto ignition . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a metal cone clutch, a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft .

The frame was composed of sheet steel U-profiles. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was designed as an internal shoe brake that acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake worked on the drums on the rear wheels.

The 25/40 hp was available as a four- or six-seater double or triple phaeton , as a two-door coupé , as a four-door sedan and as a landaulet . With the cheapest body (coupé) it cost 17,000 RM.

The 25/40 hp was built until the end of 1909. The following year it was replaced by the 24/50 hp model .
