The Opel 35/40 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG from 1905 built up 1906th

History and technology

The 35/40 PS was larger than the 30/32 PS presented a year earlier . The then largest Opel thus covered the upper segment of the luxury class. As the "Opel Motorwagen" it was already manufactured according to Opel's own design.

The engine was a four - cylinder block engine composed of two blocks with a displacement of 6872 cm³ (bore × stroke = 125 mm × 140 mm), the 40 HP (29 kW) at 1500 / min. performed. The side-controlled T-head motor was water-cooled. The piston slide carburetor had a pre-heating of the fuel-air mixture. Each cylinder had two spark plugs, one from a battery ignition and the other from a magneto ignition . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a metal cone clutch, a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft .

The frame was composed of steel profiles and reinforced with wood. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was designed as a water-cooled band brake that acted on the gearbox output shaft. The handbrake worked on the drums on the rear wheels.

The 35/40 PS was available as a two-seater Phaeton , a four-seater double Phaeton and a four-door sedan . With the cheapest structure (Phaeton) it cost 17,000 RM.

The 35/40 hp was built until the end of 1906. Then the larger 25/40 PS replaced it .
