The Opel 6/14 PS was a middle class passenger car that Adam Opel KG built together with the 6/12 PS model from 1909 to 1910 as the successor to the 8/9 PS model .

History and technology

The 6/12 PS and 6/14 PS were the first mid-range Opel that the Rüsselsheim-based automobile manufacturer offered from its own design and no longer based on the Darracq system .

The engine was a four - cylinder block engine with 1544 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 64 mm × 120 mm), the 14 HP (10.3 kW) at 1500 / min. performed. The side-controlled engine was water-cooled. The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual three-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft . The maximum speed of the car was 50 km / h.

The frame consisted of sheet steel U-profiles. As with the predecessor, the two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was designed as an internal shoe brake that acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake worked on the drums on the rear wheels.

There were three body styles, a two-seater Phaeton , a four-seater double phaeton and a landaulet .

The cheapest variant (Phaeton) cost 5600 Reichsmarks .

While the sister model 6/12 PS was discontinued in the year of its appearance, the 6/14 PS was still available until the end of 1910. The 6/16 PS replaced it in the following year .
