construction

Lettering

The fully drivable, hand-made prototype is not based on the standard Astra Coupé , but on the chassis and drivetrain of an Opel Astra V8 Coupé from the 2000 season that was used in the DTM . The racing cars from the DTM are not touring cars in the classic sense that are technically based on a production vehicle, but rather prototypes specially designed for motorsport . With the study developed at the Opel Performance Center (OPC), Opel wanted to demonstrate the synergy between motorsport and series production:

"With this high-tech athlete we want to show what we can really do."

A small series was planned for a seven-digit DM amount, including an extended "lifelong" service.

The eight-cylinder V-engine installed in the front of the Astra OPC X-treme drives the rear wheels, the sequential , unsynchronized six-speed gearbox is located on the rear axle and is combined with the differential in one housing ( transaxle ). The body is made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic and sits on a tubular space frame . Shock absorbers and stabilizers of the chassis are adjustable, the front and rear wheels are individually suspended on double wishbones .

Changes compared to the DTM racing car mainly affect the brakes, which are equipped with brake discs made of carbon fiber reinforced composite material and six-piston calipers, and the Astra OPC X-treme also has a modified exhaust system with silencers . The front spoiler and rear wing have also been adapted for the street-legal version. There is no anti-lock braking system or vehicle dynamics control (ESP).

The interior is made of Alcantara and brushed aluminum . The airbag steering wheel was taken from the Opel Speedster as the only component from Opel's large-scale series .

Unlike the DTM, the X-treme had 9 × 20 and 11 × 20 wheels with 265/30 ZR 20 and 305/25 ZR 20 tires.

The top speed is, depending on the selected gear ratio , between 310 and 330 km / h, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.9 seconds. Consumption should be “well below twenty liters [n]”.

engine

The engine of the Astra OPC X-Treme is based on the DTM engines built by Spiess . It is a modified version of the L47 from the Oldsmobile Aurora , as it was also used in the Cadillac Northstar LMP and the Shelby Series 1 . This eight-cylinder V-engine with a displacement of 3995 cm³ (bore × stroke: 87 × 84 mm) and four overhead camshafts comes from the Cadillac - Northstar family. In the Astra OPC X-treme it has an output of 326 kW (444 hp), the maximum torque is 530 Nm at 4800 rpm.

The engine is equipped with an air flow limiter which is intended to improve the response. In addition, among other things, the torque curve can be set electronically while driving using the engine map .
