The Opel 15/24 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG only in 1909 as a successor to the model 20/22 PS built.

History and technology

After the 20/22 hp phased out in 1906, Opel did not produce a vehicle of this size for two years, even if there were other luxury vehicles of the brand during this time. It was not until 1909 that the 20/22 PS found a corresponding successor in the 15/24 PS.

The engine was a four - cylinder block engine composed of two blocks with 3770 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 100 mm × 120 mm), the 24 HP (17.6 kW) at 2500 / min. performed. The side-controlled motor was water-cooled, the coolant circulation was ensured by a centrifugal pump. The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft .

The frame was composed of sheet steel U-profiles. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was designed as an internal shoe brake that acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake worked on the drums on the rear wheels.

The 15/24 hp was available as a two-seater Phaeton , four-seater double Phaeton , four- door sedan and just such a Landaulet . With the cheapest structure (Phaeton) it cost 10,000 RM.

The 15/24 hp was built until the end of 1909. In 1910 the larger successor 16/35 hp came .
