The Opel 18/50 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG 1916-1920 as successor to the model 20/45 PS built.

History and technology

The 18/50 PS was essentially the same as the previous 20/45 model, but had a smaller, but more powerful engine.

This engine was a side-controlled four - cylinder block engine , but initially only had a displacement of 4676 cm³. Later the displacement increased to 4705 cm³. The output for both variants is 56 PS (41 kW) at 1500 rpm. specified. The engine was water-cooled; a centrifugal pump provided the cooling water. The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft . The top speed increased to 85 km / h.

As with its predecessor, the two rigid axles were suspended from the sheet steel U-profile frame on three-quarter elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was an internal shoe brake that acted on the cardan shaft. The handbrake was designed as a drum brake on the rear wheels.

The car was available as a four-seater double phaeton , a torpedo , a four-door Pullman limousine or a landaulet .

Production of the 18/50 PS was not stopped until 1920. The successor 21/55 hp was already on the market.
