The Opel 29/50 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG only in 1908 as successor to the model 32/50 PS built.

History and technology

The 29/50 HP presented in mid-1908 was essentially the same as its predecessor, but had an engine of the same power, which was about 0.5 liters smaller, which was due to the displacement taxation introduced in Germany at the time. The longer chassis has also been shortened a bit. The 29/50 PS was no longer the most powerful Opel of its time, as the 33/60 PS model came out that same year .

Like its predecessor, the engine was a four - cylinder block engine made up of two blocks , but now with 7482 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 130 mm × 140 mm), which also produced 50 hp (37 kW) at 1500 rpm. performed. The side-controlled T-head motor was water-cooled. A centrifugal pump was built into the coolant circuit. The piston slide carburetor had a pre-heating of the fuel-air mixture. Each cylinder had two spark plugs, one from a battery ignition and the other from a magneto ignition . As in the previous 45/50 hp engine, the engine output was transmitted to the rear axle via a metal cone clutch (predecessor: leather cone clutch), a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft .

The frame was composed of sheet steel U-profiles. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The frames were optionally available in two wheelbases, 3240 mm or 3450 mm. The service brake was designed as an internal shoe brake - the water cooling of the predecessor had been omitted - which acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake worked on the drums on the rear wheels.

The two-door coupé and the six-seat triple phaeton were no longer available, but the 29/50 hp was still available as a four-seat double phaeton , a four-door sedan and a landaulet . With the cheapest body (double phaeton) the car cost 18,000 RM.

The 29/50 hp was built for only six months, until the end of 1908. Then the larger 30/50 hp replaced it .
