The Opel 30/50 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG only in 1909 as a successor to the model 29/50 PS built.

History and technology

The 30/50 PS presented at the beginning of 1909 essentially corresponded to its predecessor 32/50 PS , which had been discontinued six months earlier , but had an engine of the same power that was around 0.3 liters smaller. In contrast to its direct predecessor 29/50 PS, the 30/50 PS was again available with two different chassis with the old, large wheelbases.

The engine was, like its predecessor, a four - cylinder block engine composed of two blocks , but now with a displacement of 7698 cm³ (bore × stroke = 130 mm × 145 mm), which also produced 50 hp (37 kW) at 1500 rpm. performed. The side-controlled T-head motor was water-cooled. A centrifugal pump was built into the coolant circuit. The piston slide carburetor no longer had any preheating. Each cylinder had two spark plugs, one from a battery ignition and the other from a magneto ignition . The engine output was - as with the predecessor 29/50 PS - passed on to the rear axle via a metal cone clutch (previous predecessor 32/50 PS: leather cone clutch), a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft .

The frame was composed of sheet steel U-profiles. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The frames were optionally available in two wheelbases, 3200 mm or 3700 mm. The service brake was designed as an internal shoe brake that acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake worked on the drums on the rear wheels.

The 30/50 hp was still available as a four-seater double phaeton , a four-door sedan and a landaulet . With the cheapest body (double phaeton) the car cost 16,000 RM.

The 30/50 hp was built until the end of 1909. Then the larger and more powerful 28/70 hp replaced it .
