The Opel 25/55 PS was a luxury class car that Adam Opel KG built from early 1913 to 1916 as the successor to the 24/50 PS model .

History and technology

Like its predecessor, the car had a side-controlled four - cylinder block engine , but with a displacement of 6514 cm³. It developed 62.5 hp (46 kW) at 1400 rpm. The engine was water-cooled and the cooling water was conveyed by a centrifugal pump. The engine power was transferred to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft in an oil bath (instead of a dry one, as in the predecessor). This increased the top speed of the cars to 90 km / h.

As with the predecessor, the two rigid axles were suspended from three-quarter elliptical longitudinal leaf springs on the sheet steel U-profile frame. The service brake was designed as an internal shoe brake and acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake consisted of drum brakes only on the rear wheels.

The cars were actually only available as a four-door Pullman limousine and as a landaulet . On request, however, they were also delivered as torpedoes .

Production of the 25/55 hp was stopped in 1916. The 21/55 hp model , built from 1919 onwards, can be seen as the successor, although its engine had a significantly smaller displacement.
