Opel Chevette

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Opel Chevette was a lower middle class passenger car that was offered from 1980 to 1982. It was manufactured by GM's British subsidiary Vauxhall as a left-hand drive version of the Vauxhall Chevette, which was produced from 1975 to 1982 . The Chevette was the British GM T-Car and, apart from the front design, corresponded to the so-called droop snoot (German for "hanging nose"), which was similar to that of the Opel Manta B, and the engine with 1256 cm³ displacement of the Opel Cadet C.

history

The Opel Chevette was offered by Opel on the German market from October 1980 to April 1982 . After the popular Kadett C was phased out and the new Kadett D launched, Opel wanted to offer an even cheaper car until the newly developed Corsa A was introduced . The car was revised in autumn 1979.

The Chevette was offered as a two- or four-door notchback sedan , three-door hatchback (CC) and three-door station wagon (Estate). The number of units sold was 12,332 copies.

The technology came almost exclusively from Vauxhall, which, starting with imperial screws and threads , often led to problems with repairs and the supply of spare parts.
