The Opel 45/50 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG built only 1906th

History and technology

The 45/50 PS was slightly shorter than the 35/40 PS introduced a year earlier , but had a larger and more powerful engine. The luxury car was the most powerful Opel at its time.

The engine was a four - cylinder block engine composed of two blocks with a displacement of 8016 cm³ (bore × stroke = 135 mm × 140 mm), the 50 HP (37 kW) at 1500 / min. performed. The side-controlled T-head motor was water-cooled. The piston slide carburetor had a pre-heating of the fuel-air mixture. Each cylinder had two spark plugs, one from a battery ignition and the other from a magneto ignition . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a metal cone clutch, a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft .

The frame was composed of steel profiles and reinforced with wood. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was designed as a water-cooled inner shoe brake that acted on the gearbox output shaft. The handbrake worked on the drums on the rear wheels.

The 45/50 hp was available as a two-seat Phaeton , a four-seat double Phaeton and a four-door sedan . With the cheapest structure (Phaeton) it cost 20,000 RM.

The 45/50 hp was built until the end of 1906. Then the larger 32/50 hp replaced it .
