The Opel 6/12 PS was a mid-range car that Adam Opel KG built together with the 6/14 PS model only in 1909 as the successor to the 8/9 PS model .

History and technology

The 6/12 PS and 6/14 PS were the first mid-range Opel that the Rüsselsheim-based automobile manufacturer offered from its own design and no longer based on the Darracq system .

The engine was a two - cylinder block engine with 1527 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 90 mm × 120 mm), the 12 HP (8.8 kW) at 1600 / min. performed. The side-controlled engine was water-cooled. The engine power was passed on to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manually operated three-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft . The top speed of the car was 55 km / h.

The frame consisted of sheet steel U-profiles. As with the predecessor, the two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was designed as an internal shoe brake that acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake worked on the drums on the rear wheels.

There were three body styles, a two-seater Phaeton , a four-seater double phaeton and a landaulet .

The cheapest variant (Phaeton) cost 4800 RM.

While the sister model 6/14 PS was still being built in 1910, the 6/12 PS was discontinued at the end of 1909 without a successor.
