The Opel 32/50 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG from 1907 to 1908 as a successor to the model 45/50 PS built.

History and technology

The 32/50 hp was still the most powerful Opel of its time. Its chassis corresponded to the contemporary, cheaper 25/40 hp , but had a larger and more powerful engine.

Like its predecessor, the engine was a four - cylinder block engine composed of two blocks with a displacement of 8016 cm³ (bore × stroke = 135 mm × 140 mm), the 50 hp (37 kW) at 1500 rpm. performed. The side-controlled T-head motor was water-cooled. The centrifugal pump for the coolant circuit was new. The piston slide carburetor had a pre-heating of the fuel-air mixture. Each cylinder had two spark plugs, one from a battery ignition and the other from a magneto ignition . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch (predecessor: metal cone clutch), a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft .

The new frame was composed of sheet steel U-profiles and the wood reinforcement had been removed. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The frames were optionally available in two wheelbases, 3200 mm or 3700 mm. The service brake was designed as a water-cooled inner shoe brake that acted on the gearbox output shaft. The handbrake worked on the drums on the rear wheels.

The two-seat Phaeton was no longer available, but the 32/50 hp was still available as a four-seat double Phaeton and a four-door sedan . A six-seater triple phaeton , a two-door coupé and a four-door landaulet were added . With the cheapest body (coupé) the car cost 19,000 RM.

The 32/50 hp was built until mid-1908. Then the smaller 29/50 PS replaced it .
