The Opel 25/30 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG only in 1906 as a successor to the model 30/32 PS built.

History and technology

The 25/30 PS was bigger but cheaper than its predecessor. He continued to represent the middle segment of the luxury class, but was no longer Opel's largest model. It was still manufactured under license from Darracq . Its engine was also similar to that of its predecessor.

It was a four - cylinder block engine composed of two blocks with a displacement of 4730 cm³ (bore × stroke = 112 mm × 120 mm), which made 30 hp (22 kW) at 1400 rpm. The side-controlled engine was water-cooled. The piston slide carburetor had a pre-heating of the fuel-air mixture. Each cylinder had two spark plugs, one from a battery ignition and the other from a magneto ignition . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual three-speed gearbox with steering wheel gearshift and a cardan shaft .

The frame was composed of steel profiles. The additional wood reinforcement was new. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was an internal shoe brake that acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake worked on the drums on the rear wheels.

The 25/30 hp was available as a two-door coupé , a four-seater double phaeton, as well as a four-door sedan and landaulet . The car was optionally available with two different wheelbases, 3000 mm or 3250 mm, in any case significantly more than the 2250 mm of the predecessor. With the cheapest body (coupé) it cost 13,000 RM.

The 25/30 hp was built until the end of 1906. Then the even larger 18/30 hp replaced it .
