The Opel 13/30 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG only in 1912 as the successor of the models 14/20 hp and 16/18 hp built.

History and technology

The 13/30 PS replaced two of the manufacturer's upper-class models. After just one year it was further developed and built as 14/30 HP, 14/34 HP, 14/38 HP and 14/48 HP for a further 11 years.

The 13/30 hp was a huge car that could easily be seen to have the clientele for which it was designed. Its dimensions were very opulent and it was equipped with the greatest comfort that was then available for a luxury car. So was z. B. a Pullman limousine of this type about 2.5 m high.

The car had a side-controlled four - cylinder in - line engine with 3308 cm³ displacement, producing 30 hp (22 kW) at 1550 rpm. performed. While the base engine was made of an aluminum alloy , the cylinder covers were made of cast iron . The engine was water-cooled. The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft with two joints. This enabled the car to reach a top speed of 70 km / h.

The two rigid axles were suspended from three-quarter elliptical longitudinal leaf springs on the steel U-profile frame. There were only band brakes on the rear wheels.

The car was available as a two-seat Phaeton , a four-seat touring car , a four-door Pullman limousine , a landaulet or a two-door coupé .
