The Corsa D is a small car built by Opel from summer 2006 to autumn 2014 that replaced its predecessor, the Corsa C.

The Corsa D was presented to the world press on July 18, 2006 at the British International Motor Show in London and was available from October 7, 2006.

Production of the Corsa D was discontinued in October 2014. The successor model is the E series .

General

Like the Fiat Grande Punto, the Corsa D on the Punto3-ZFA199 / GM-SCCS platform has grown in all dimensions compared to its predecessor. In particular, the length has increased by 160 mm to 3999 mm. This means that Opel, unlike Fiat with the Grande Punto or Peugeot with the 207 , is just below the 4-meter mark. There is a sporty three-door and a five-door version, which you can see more of the increased space. There is also the particularly sporty, exclusively three-door OPC version with a length of 4040 mm.

The curb weight is from 1100 kg for the three-door or from 1145 kg for the five-door. The acceleration time is slightly higher because of the higher weight, but this is also due to the longer gear ratio. Thanks to the longer gear ratio, the fuel consumption is on par with the previous model Corsa C despite the higher weight. The permissible payload is up to 445 kg for the three-door and up to 420 kg for the five-door.

Motorizations and transmissions

The Corsa D was launched with three petrol engines of 1.0 l displacement with 44 kW (60 PS), 1.2 l with 59 kW (80 PS) up to a 1.4-l variant with 66 kW (90 PS) ) offered. The diesel engines had two 1.3 l CDTi with 55 kW / 66 kW (75/90 PS) and the 1.7 l CDTi with 92 kW (125 PS). The 1.0-liter Corsa has a three-cylinder engine ; all other cars have four-cylinder in - line engines .

The two models for LPG operation ( LPG LPG, liquefied petroleum gas) have a tank for 42 liters of LPG addition to the standard fuel tank with 45 liters. When both tanks are filled, the total range of the vehicle increases accordingly.

The small 1.2 liter diesel engine (referred to as 1.3 CDTI) was jointly developed by GM Powertrain and Fiat . After the end of the joint venture , General Motors and Fiat shared the intellectual rights to this engine, and thanks to long-term supply contracts, Fiat continues to manufacture it. The 1.3 CDTI from the ECOTEC engine family from Opel was voted engine of the year in the 1.0 to 1.4 l class in 2005.

The Corsa OPC presented  at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2007 has a 1.6-liter ECOTEC gasoline engine with turbocharging and 141 kW (192 hp). fitted. This enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.2 s and a top speed of 225 km / h.

The Corsa GSi , launched in September 2007 , also has a 1.6-liter ECOTEC gasoline engine with turbocharging. The 110 kW (150 PS) machine allows a top speed of 210 km / h. In contrast to the OPC model, the Corsa GSi is also available as a five-door model.

The Corsa OPC , the GSi and the two diesel models with 66 kW (1.3 CDTI) and 92 kW (1.7 CDTI) each have a 6-speed gearbox, all other models were offered with a 5-speed gearbox. In addition, there was an automated manual transmission called Easytronic with five (1.2-l petrol engine with 59 kW) or six gears (1.3-l diesel engine with 66 kW) and a 4-speed automatic transmission for the model with 1 , 4-liter gasoline engine and 66 kW or from 2010 then with 74 kW.

In December 2009 the Corsa 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX appeared with an output of 70 kW and a standard consumption of 3.7 liters per 100 km.

In January 2010 the Corsa D was technically revised. From then on, all gasoline engines complied with the Euro 5 emissions standard. The 1.0-liter gasoline engine was removed from the range in Germany, while the 1.2 and 1.4-liter engines were available in two output levels from this point on. In Germany, the more powerful 1.2-liter gasoline engine was only available in combination with the Easytronic automated manual transmission .

In the further course of 2010, all diesel engines were also converted to Euro 5.

Corsa with CO₂ package

The three-door 1.3 CDTI model is available with a so-called CO₂ package at no extra charge . To improve aerodynamics, the car with the 55 kW diesel engine has an optimized spoiler lip at the front, a 20 millimeter lower body, a longer gear ratio and narrower 175/70 R14 wheels (series size 185/70 R 14). The tank volume has been reduced from 45 to 40 liters. The car has reduced emissions of 109 grams / km of CO₂ and 0.4 liters / 100 km less consumption.

Facelift

In November 2010, Opel presented the revised Corsa, which was mainly recognizable by the modified front section. He also got a changed range of equipment options. The GSI version was omitted.

The modified version was available from dealers from January 29, 2011.

Production of the Corsa D ended in October 2014. Its successor, the Opel Corsa E , came onto the market in January 2015.

Furnishing

safety

All models have front and side airbags for driver and front passenger as standard, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with cornering brake control and brake assist, electronic brake force distribution (EBV), disengaging safety pedals (PRS) and traction control with engine and braking intervention (TC). With the exception of the basic model, head airbags are standard equipment.

The ESP Plus as standard since the end of March 2009, all models, to date only the 1.7 CDTI and the explanations Sport, GSi and OPC . The models up to and including 74 kW output have internally ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The three most powerful models, the Corsa 1.7 CDTI, GSi and OPC, also have disc brakes on the rear axle.

There is enough space in the rear for only two child seats . Isofix brackets on the outer seats in the back are part of the standard equipment, for the front passenger seat they are available at an additional cost. The front passenger airbag can be switched off so that rear-facing child seats can also be fitted on the front passenger seat.

Comfort and other equipment

Opel Corsa "Color Stripes" (2011)
Opel Corsa "Satellite" (2011)

The basic model Selection has electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, rev counter, height and length adjustable steering column, height adjustable driver's seat, speed-dependent power steering and central locking as standard. In the summer of 2010 it was offered as an unchanged special limited edition from 8,990 euros and thus 2,410 euros cheaper. The special model Catch me now was already available in 2007 with 16-inch aluminum rims, air conditioning, CD radio, electric window lifters and radio central locking.

The next higher version, Edition 111, also offers electric front windows, air conditioning, leather steering wheel, CD-MP3 radio, split rear seat backrest, cruise control and central locking with radio control. Since November 2010, the Navi version has been offered instead , which also has a navigation device and fog lights. As an alternative to this version, there is the somewhat less extensively equipped special model Satellite , named after the Eurovision Song Contest song of the same name .

The edition models Color Line , Color Race and Color Stripes , which were offered in 2011 and had colored rims in addition to colored stripes on the bonnet, sides and tailgate, provided color accents .

In addition to the 111 year old edition, the Innovation version has heated exterior mirrors, cornering and cornering lights, fog lights and light alloy wheels, while the Sport version offers automatic air conditioning and front sports seats instead of cornering and cornering lights . The GSi and OPC versions have the same comfort features as Sport . The Sport and GSi versions have not been available since November 2010, but the 110 kW GSi motor has been available for the Innovation model since then and for almost all models a few months later.

A panoramic sliding roof and a bicycle rack system called FlexFix at the rear are available as special equipment .

In contrast to the Corsa C, no xenon light and no coolant temperature display are available anymore. Leather seats can only be ordered for the Opel Corsa OPC. The originally existing side protection strips were no longer available at the beginning of the second model year.

All diesel engines are equipped with a diesel particulate filter as standard .

GSI

The Corsa GSI was introduced in the summer of 2007 and remained in the range until the introduction of the facelift. The model could be ordered as a three- or five-door model; the base prices for the market launch were € 19,950 and € 20,650, respectively. The special features were a 1.6l turbo engine with an output of 110 kW (136 PS) and 210 Nm torque, the sports suspension and braking system of the OPC, sports seats in front (black / red), sports steering wheel (black / red), aluminum sports pedals, aluminum rims in the 5th Star design in the dimension 7x17 "as well as the spoiler package called" OPC-Line 1 ". For a surcharge of 370 € the spoiler package" OPC-Line 2 "could be purchased, this contained complete bumpers, which were based on the OPC.

OPC

From March 2007 the sportiest Corsa to date, the OPC, could be ordered. Its base price at launch was € 22,560. The OPC is only available as a three-door and its 1.6 liter turbo engine has an output of 141 kW and generates 230 Nm ( overboost 266 Nm) of torque. The absolute highlights of this model include the exclusively available Arden blue exterior color, the Recaro bucket seats, the OPC spoiler package (front and rear bumpers as well as side skirts and roof spoiler), the OPC-specific exterior mirrors, the flattened sports steering wheel, gear knob and speedometer in OPC design , a blue painted brake system (from facelift gray) and the aluminum rims in the format 7x17 ". As extras, rims in the dimensions 7.5x18" and a rear spoiler in a so-called motorsport look can be ordered. During the construction period of the Corsa D, 22,367 pieces left the production halls as OPCs.

During the entire construction period of the OPC, the following colors were used: Arden blue, magma red, Casablanca white, Sunnymelongelb, star silver (2007–2008), light silver (2008–2010), silver lake / pearl silver (from 2010), sapphire black (until 2012), graphite black (from 2012) and platinum anthracite (from 2013).

  • Black Edition package (since 2012): The Black Edition package contains a complete matt black film that requires a graphite black base coat, and also includes the halogen cornering and cornering lights and the rear spoiler in motorsport look.
  • Design package (since 2013) This includes black painted exterior mirrors, a black radiator clip, black ventilation rings in the interior and the 18 "rims in high-gloss black as optical extras. The package also includes the OPC rear spoiler in motorsport look and a smartphone interface contain.
  • Motorsport package (since 2013): The specialty of this package is that it can only be ordered for the color Casablanca white and contains an exterior decoration in the Opel Motorsport colors as well as a specific emblem on the B-pillar. The package also includes the OPC rear spoiler in motorsport look, black painted exterior mirrors, a black radiator clip and the 18 "wheels in high-gloss black.

OPC "Nürburgring Edition"

In April 2011 the OPC "Nürburgring Edition" was presented. It basically has the same drive train as the OPC , but the motor here has an output of 155 kW and generates a torque of 250 Nm (overboost 280 Nm). This was achieved through a new engine set-up, which is designed for 100-octane gasoline, and an adaptation of the wastegate . The transmission of the Nürburgring Edition has a mechanical multi- disc limited slip differential compared to the transmission of the OPC .

Furthermore, the Nürburgring Edition of the Corsa OPC has a few additional gimmicks compared to the original model. These include the aforementioned increase in performance to 155 kW, 8 × 18 "forged aluminum wheels in carbon gray, an even lower chassis from Bilstein , a 305 Brembo brake system on the front axle, the mechanical multi-disc limited slip differential from Drexler Motorsport , which was also mentioned and a backflow-optimized rear silencer. Further visual distinguishing features are: additional front spoiler lip, Nürburgring logo on the B-pillars, Nürburgring logo on the headrests, Nürburgring lettering on the door sills and the exhaust system with two tailpipes.

Colors that can be ordered are sapphire black (until 2012), henna red (until 2013), apple green, Casablanca white, graphite black (from 2012), platinum anthracite (from 2013) and magma red (2014). The Black Edition, Design or Motorsport package of the OPC can also be ordered for the Nürburgring Edition. The list price of the edition was 28,100 euros when it was launched.

Thanks to the uncompromising vote, the “Nürburgring Edition” set the benchmarks in this segment in the sports car test in categories such as the 18 m slalom or the short lap at Hockenheim.

successes

In the first two months after the official presentation, over 150,000 Corsa Ds were ordered, one and a half times as many as Opel had previously expected. The declared goal in 2007 was to displace the VW Polo from the top position for new registrations in the small car segment in Germany . Between January 1 and May 31, 2007 the Corsa was at the top of the small car segment for the first time in years with 31,947 new registrations, leaving the previous front runner (VW Polo, 30,334 new registrations in the same period) behind. In the 2007 annual balance sheet, the Opel Corsa was the best-selling small car in Germany with 79,098 new registrations, followed by the VW Polo with 76,683 units. Another success is the winning of 14 titles, including "Car of the Year" and "Gelber Engel 2007", chosen by ADAC readers.

Production sites

The three-door variant was mainly built in the Eisenach plant (Germany) and the five-door variant exclusively in Figueruelas (Spain). Since 2013, the Corsa has also been assembled by Unison in Obchuk , Belarus .
