The Opel 35/60 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG only in 1909 as a successor to the model 33/60 PS built.

History and technology

Like its predecessor, the 35/60 PS was the most powerful model in the Opel model range at the time; the next weaker, contemporary model was the 30/50 hp . Basically only the piston stroke of the engine was increased by 5 mm compared to the previous model and the chassis with the long wheelbase was removed.

The 35/60 PS had a side-controlled four - cylinder block engine with T-head and 8928 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 140 mm × 145 mm), the 60 PS (44 kW) at 1600 rpm. performed. The engine was water-cooled; a centrifugal pump provided the cooling water. The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a metal cone clutch, a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft .

The sheet steel U-profile frame was only available with a wheelbase of 3240 mm. The two rigid axles were suspended from it on semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was an internal shoe brake that acted on the output shaft of the gearbox. The handbrake was designed as a drum brake on the rear wheels.

Like its predecessor, the car was available as a four-seater double phaeton , a four-door Pullman limousine or a landaulet . The cheapest variant (double phaeton) cost 17,500 RM, other versions up to 20,500 RM. That was five times as much as would have to be paid for an Opel “doctoral car” .

Production of the 35/60 hp was stopped at the end of 1909. The successor was the 34/65 hp in the following year .
