The Opel 4.2-liter or Opel 16/60 PS was a car in the luxury class , which the Adam Opel AG only in 1929 as a successor to the model 15/60 PS built.

At the beginning of 1929, Opel presented the 3.7 liter as the successor to the 12/50 PS and at the same time the 4.2 liter as the successor to the larger sister model 15/60 PS.

The engine of the 4.2 liter was again a side-controlled six - cylinder in - line engine , but with a displacement increased to 4181 cm³. The output remained at 60 hp (44 kW) at 2800 rpm. equal. The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a multi-plate clutch, a manual three-speed gearbox, a cardan shaft and a differential .

Like its predecessor, the 4.2 liter had a ladder frame made of steel U-profiles, on which two rigid axles were attached to longitudinal leaf springs (semi-elliptical at the front, quarter-elliptical at the rear) and were fitted with shock absorbers . All four wheels had drum brakes.

The 4.2 liter was also available as a touring car, Pullman limousine or station wagon. The four-seater convertible and two-seater roadster versions were added.

At the end of 1929, production was stopped after only 39 copies. The successor was the Admiral , who had only been launched in 1937 .
