The 1.8 liter Opel was a car model of Adam Opel AG in Rüsselsheim, which was manufactured from 1931 to 1933.

History and technology

The 1.8 liter was introduced in 1931 as the successor to the 8/40 hp . The mid-range car had a smaller engine than its predecessor.

This engine was a six-cylinder in - line engine with 1790 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 65 mm × 90 mm) and side-mounted valves . The engine was fed by a single Solex carburetor. The output was 32 hp (23.5 kW) at 3200 rpm. The maximum torque of 100 Nm was already at 1000 rpm. reached.

The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a single-disc dry clutch, a manual three-speed gearbox and a differential on the rear axle.

Initially the 1.8 liter reached a top speed of 85 km / h, but from 1933 the engine output rose to 33.5 hp (24.6 kW) and the top speed to 90 km / h.

The pressed steel frame consisted of U-profiles and the two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs, which were provided with hydraulic shock absorbers . The drum brakes on all four wheels were cable operated.

The 1.8 liter was available in a number of body styles, such as a touring car with four seats, a two-door coupé, a two-door convertible, and a two-door and four-door sedan.

From 1932 there was an additional, more luxurious variant called the 1.8 liter Regent . This name should be reminiscent of the Regent luxury car, which was only manufactured in 1928 . Technically, the Regent corresponded to the base model of the 1.8 liter with 32 hp. This car was also available as a two-door roadster or a four-door Pullman sedan. This luxury car also benefited from the technical changes of 1933.

At the end of 1933, production of the 1.8 liter was discontinued after 32,285 copies. The Opel 6 was its successor.
