The Opel 14 PS was an upper middle class car that Adam Opel KG only built in 1904.

History and technology

Opel built the 14 PS, like the 12 PS presented a year earlier , according to the system of the French manufacturer Darracq . Its dimensions corresponded to the 12/14 hp model released in the same year , but had an engine with a larger displacement and was significantly more expensive.

The engine was a two-cylinder in - line engine with 2365 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 112 mm × 120 mm), the 14 HP (10.3 kW) at 1600 / min. performed. The side-controlled T-head motor was water-cooled. The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual three-speed gearbox with sequential steering column gear and a cardan shaft . The maximum speed of the car was 50 km / h.

The frame consisted of sheet steel U-profiles. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake was designed as a band brake that worked on the rear wheels.

There were two body styles, a two-seat Phaeton and a four-seat tonneau . The cheapest variant (Phaeton) cost 8,000 RM.

At the end of 1904, the production of the 14 hp was stopped. There was no successor.
