The Opel 12/14 PS was an upper middle class car that Adam Opel KG built from 1904 to 1908.

History and technology

The size and design of the 12/14 PS roughly corresponded to the 10/12 PS model presented two years earlier , but had a larger and more powerful engine with an L-head instead of the previously common T-head .

The engine was a two-cylinder in - line engine with 2078 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 105 mm × 120 mm), the 14 HP (10.3 kW) at 1400 / min. performed. The side-controlled engine was water-cooled. The engine power was passed on to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual three-speed gearbox with steering column gear (from 1907 gate gear) and a cardan shaft . The top speed of the car was 55 km / h.

The platform frame consisted of sheet steel U-profiles and was reinforced with wood. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was designed as a band brake and acted on the cardan shaft. The handbrake operated drum brakes on the rear wheels.

There were three body styles, a two-seater Phaeton , a four-seater double phaeton and a similar tonneau . The cheapest variant (Phaeton) cost 7,000 RM.

In 1908 the construction of the 10/12 PS was stopped. The successor was the 10/18 hp model .
