The Opel 10/12 PS was a mid-range car that Adam Opel KG built from 1902 to 1906.

History and technology

The 10/12 PS was the first Opel that the Rüsselsheim automobile manufacturer built based on its own design, and at the same time the brand's first mid-range car. For the first time Opel built a a two-cylinder engine and also the previously common change control of the valves disappeared with this model from the portfolio of the manufacturer.

The engine was a two-cylinder in - line engine with 1885 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 100 mm × 120 mm), the 12 HP (8.8 kW) at 2000 / min. performed. The side-controlled T-head motor was water-cooled. The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual three-speed gearbox with steering column gear and a cardan shaft . The top speed of the car was 45 km / h.

The frame consisted of sheet steel U-profiles and was reinforced with wood. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake was designed as a band brake that worked on the rear wheels.

There were three body styles, a two-seat Phaeton , a four-seat tonneau and a two-seat coupé . The cheapest variant (Phaeton) cost 6,000 RM.

In 1906 the construction of the 10/12 PS was stopped. The successor from 1910 was the 8/16 hp model .
