The Opel Insignia was a luxury concept car from Opel . The model was presented to the general public for the first time at the IAA 2003. The purpose of the study was to sound out technical and design options for the purpose of realizing a successor series for the Admiral .

Special features of the Opel Insignia concept are the hydropneumatic suspension, the pantograph mechanism for the sliding door-like opening and closing of the rear vehicle doors, as well as the tailgate and the LED lighting technology.

At the beginning of 2005, Opel announced that this concept could not be implemented in series production because it was too heavy, too expensive and too complicated. The luxury sedan therefore remained a pure concept study.

The successor to the Opel Vectra came onto the market at the end of 2008 under the name Opel Insignia , but is based on the study of the mid-range Opel GTC Concept .
