The Opel 34/80 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG from the beginning of 1914 as a successor to the end of 1916 to model 34/65 PS built.

History and technology

The 34/80 hp had a larger interior and greater power than its predecessor. In addition, the luxury vehicle had a number of technical improvements compared to the previous model.

Like its predecessor, the car had a side-controlled four - cylinder block engine with a displacement of 8760 cm³ (bore × stroke = 130 mm × 135 mm). But it now made 80 HP (59 kW) at 1300 rpm. The engine was water-cooled and the cooling water was conveyed by a centrifugal pump. The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch (predecessor: metal cone clutch), a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft in an oil bath (instead of a dry one, as in the predecessor). This increased the top speed of the cars to 110 km / h.

The two rigid axles were suspended from three-quarter elliptical (predecessor: semi-elliptical) longitudinal leaf springs on the sheet steel U-profile frame. A front subframe to accommodate the engine was new. The service brake was designed as an internal shoe brake and acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake consisted of drum brakes only on the rear wheels.

The cars were available as a six-seat double phaeton , a four-door Pullman limousine and a landaulet . On request there were also mixed forms of double phaeton and landaulet. The cheapest model was the touring car priced at 16,250 RM.

Production of the 34/80 hp was stopped at the end of 1916. There was no successor and this model was to be the last Opel with a displacement of over 8 liters.
