History and technology

The 20/22 hp was Opel's first luxury car.

The engine was a four - cylinder block engine composed of two blocks with a 3770 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 100 mm × 120 mm), the 22 HP (16.2 kW) at 1600 / min. performed. The side-controlled T-head motor was water-cooled. The engine power was passed on to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual three-speed gearbox with sequential steering wheel shift and a cardan shaft . The frame was composed of sheet steel profiles and reinforced with wood. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was designed as an internal shoe brake that acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake worked on the band brakes on the rear wheels.

The 20/22 hp was initially only available as a tonneau , from 1905 also as a two-seater Phaeton , four-seater double phaeton and four-door sedan . With the cheapest structure (Phaeton) it cost 12,000 RM.

The 20/22 hp was built until the end of 1906. It was not until 1909 that the larger successor 15/24 hp came .
