The Opel 18/30 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG 1907-1909 as successor to the model 25/30 PS built.

History and technology

The 18/30 PS was again slightly larger than its predecessor, but remained at the same price level. It was no longer manufactured under licenses from Darracq , but according to Opel's own design. But its engine was similar to that of its predecessor.

It was a four - cylinder block engine composed of two blocks with a displacement of 4730 cm³ (bore × stroke = 112 mm × 120 mm), the 30 HP (22 kW) at 1400 / min. performed. In 1908, the output rose to 32 hp (23.5 kW) at 1500 rpm. The side-controlled engine was water-cooled, the coolant was moved by a centrifugal pump. The piston slide carburetor had a pre-heating of the fuel-air mixture. The double ignition had been omitted; each cylinder only had one spark plug that was fed by a magneto ignition . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual three-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft .

The frame was composed of sheet steel U-profiles. The wood reinforcement of the predecessor had been removed. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was designed as an internal shoe brake that acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake was now working on the drums on the rear wheels.

The 18/30 hp was available as a two-door coupé , a four-seater double phaeton , as well as a four-door sedan and landaulet . The car was again available with two different wheelbases, 3170 mm or 3470 mm. With the cheapest body (coupé) it cost 13,000 RM.

The 18/30 PS was built until the beginning of 1909 and then discontinued without a successor.
