The Opel 8/22 PS was an upper middle class passenger car that Adam Opel KG built from 1913 to 1916 as the successor to the 8/20 PS model .

History and technology

At the beginning of 1914, the Opel 8/20 PS became 8/22 PS by extending the piston stroke by 10 mm by installing larger cranks.

The engine was the four - cylinder block engine of the predecessor, but with a displacement of 2209 cm³ (bore × stroke = 75 mm × 125 mm). It now developed 24 hp (17.6 kW) at 1600 rpm. The side-controlled engine was water-cooled. The crankcase was cast from aluminum, the cylinder block was made from gray cast iron. The engine power was passed on to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft . The maximum speed of the car was 65 km / h.

The frame consisted of sheet steel U-profiles. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was designed as an internal shoe brake that acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake worked on the drums on the rear wheels.

As with the predecessor, there were five body variants, a two-seater Phaeton , a four- or six-seater double phaeton ( touring car ), a four-door sedan and a landaulet .

The 8/22 hp was built until 1916. Then the new 9/25 hp replaced it .
