Opel Twin from 1992, the shape converter: an electric car and a car with a combustion engine
To change: the internal combustion engine module with gasoline engine, transmission, fuel tank, rear axle, rear wheels

The Opel Twin is a prototype of an electric car from Opel , presented in Geneva in 1992 , in which the drive unit, the accumulator and the electric motor can be exchanged for long distances by a drive module with a conventional 3-cylinder internal combustion engine. In addition to the respective motor and the necessary energy storage, the exchange module also includes the rear axle and rear wheels.

In the electric version, the four-seater (1 + 3) is driven by two wheel hub motors of 10  kW each (i.e. 20 kW), which enable the car to reach a top speed of 120 km / h. With the batteries used with a charging capacity of 29  kWh , the range is 200 km. In the internal combustion engine unit, a gasoline engine of 800 cubic centimeters developed 25 kW (34 hp) and, with the 20-liter tank, achieved a range of over 500 km per 100 km with a consumption of 3.5 liters.

Opel not only left it with the presentation of this prototype, but made an attempt to find out what customers thought about this concept: In the customer magazine start , readers were asked by means of an attached postcard ( multiple choice ) to tell them what they wanted from it Would hold concept. Travel vouchers ranging from DM 500 to DM 1500 were offered. Eight questions had to be answered, such as: "How big should the range be?" Or: "How fast should the drive be?"
