The magazine sport auto has been published by Verlag Motor Presse Stuttgart since 1969 - first every two months, later monthly - with a sold circulation of 34,508 copies (according to IVW 2/2020). The main target group are drivers and fans of sports cars and other sporty cars. According to the publisher, the readers are predominantly male and between 25 and 45 years old. In addition to PS , sport auto is the official bulletin of the German Sports Drivers' Circle (DSK). The editorial team consists mainly of owners of motorsport licenses .

structure

The usually around 160-page issues are divided into the sections news , test and technology , motorsport and categories . The focus in motorsport is primarily on detailed Formula 1 reporting. In addition, there is mostly reports on various touring car series and the World Rally Championship . In the other departments, almost exclusively street-legal cars that can be used for motorsport purposes or at least give this impression are taken into account . Most of the time, the volume models and model versions preferred by other car magazines for everyday use are deliberately hidden. As a further unique selling point , lap times achieved in all tests are published, at least those on the magazine's standard route, a variant of the Hockenheimring that is otherwise no longer in use . Here the 2.6 km long short connection is driven without the chicane at the exit of the crossbar that was added during the 2002 renovation.

Super test

In the “Supertest”, a sporty car is tested on two racetracks and one wet handling course; to a lesser extent also in public road traffic. For the sake of comparability, the Supertest is usually run by the test editor Christian Gebhardt.

The test criteria assessed with points include:

  • Lap time Nürburgring-Nordschleife (20.6 km)
  • Lap time Hockenheimring (short connection, 2.6 km)
  • Acceleration / braking test 0–200–0 km / h
  • Wind tunnel ( lift front / rear)
  • Maximum lateral acceleration
  • 36 meter slalom
  • Evasion test 110 meters
  • Lap time wet handling course (1.78 km)

Participation in motorsport events

For several years now, the editorial team has been lining up vehicles in the VLN racing series and in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring ; most recently in cooperation with manufacturers such as Honda , Aston Martin and Audi . The results are mixed, at least twice the traveling editors were involved in serious collisions.
