The Opel 30/32 PS was a luxury class car that Adam Opel KG built from 1904 to 1905.

History and technology

The 30/32 PS was larger and significantly more expensive than the 20/22 PS presented a year earlier . The then largest Opel thus covered the middle segment of the luxury class. Like most Opels of the time, the car was still manufactured under license from Darracq .

The engine was a four - cylinder block engine composed of two blocks with a displacement of 4730 cm³ (bore × stroke = 112 mm × 120 mm), the 30 HP (22 kW) at 1400 / min. performed. The side-controlled engine was water-cooled. The piston slide carburetor had a pre-heating of the fuel-air mixture. Each cylinder had two spark plugs, one from a battery ignition and the other from a magneto ignition . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual three-speed gearbox with steering wheel gearshift and a cardan shaft . The maximum speed of the car is given as 60 km / h.

The frame was composed of steel profiles. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake was designed as an internal shoe brake that acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake worked on the band brakes on the rear wheels.

The 30/32 PS was available as a tonneau , a two-seat Phaeton and a four-seat double phaeton . With the cheapest structure (Phaeton) it cost 17,000 RM.

The 30/32 hp was built until the end of 1905. Then the larger 25/30 PS replaced it .
