Volker Strycek (born October 13, 1957 in Essen ) is a German automobile racing driver and manager.

Career

In 1984 he won the German Touring Car Championship (DTM, at that time still the German Production Car Championship ) in a BMW 635 CSi without achieving a race win. He also remained without a win when he drove for Opel in the DTM from 1989 to 1996 .

After the end of the old DTM, Strycek became manager at Opel. He raced a DTM Calibra in 1999 on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, where from 2002 he also put a then-current DTM-Opel Astra to the start as a test . With these vehicles that were otherwise not used there, he achieved lap records and proved their suitability for this uneven track. In the years that followed, this led to the participation of Opel and works teams from Audi and BMW. In 2003 he won the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring with Manuel Reuter , Timo Scheider and Marcel Tiemann in the DTM-Opel Astra V8.

In 2004 the best lap time of the time was achieved there. He was also active on various vehicles from the General Motors Group on the Nordschleife afterwards, including a. at the wheel of the now legendary Opel Manta from Kissling Motorsport .

Since 1998 he has been managing director of the Opel Performance Center (OPC) and Opel sports director. Since 2006 he has been teaching at the Technical University of Berlin . In 2007 he took over the office of AvD sports president.
