2014 season>

The 2013 DTM season was the 27th DTM season and the 14th since the series was re-established in 2000. The season began on May 5th in Hockenheim and ended on October 20th at the same point. Mike Rockenfeller was the first champion in an Audi RS 5 DTM from Team Phoenix . BMW was able to successfully defend the manufacturer's title.

Sporting and technical changes

Manufacturer

For the 2013 season, Audi renamed the vehicles previously used under the name Audi A5 DTM to Audi RS 5 DTM .

Teams

BMW increased its line-up from six to eight vehicles. The BMW Team MTEK entered the DTM in the course of this.

Mercedes reduced its vehicles from eight to six. In the course of this, they separated from Persson Motorsport .

Regulations

For the 2013 season, the DTM used the Drag Reduction System (DRS) already known from Formula 1 , which enables the rear wing to be folded down and thus reduces aerodynamic drag. If the distance to the vehicle in front was a maximum of two seconds - measured at the start-finish line - the driver behind was allowed to use the DRS once in this lap at any point. DRS was not allowed to be used in the first and last three laps of a race and the first three laps after a safety car phase.

Also known from Formula 1 was a second, softer tire compound that had to be used once in the race. This "option tire" allowed lap times to be 1 to 1.5 seconds faster, but deteriorated much faster than the standard tire.

The previous pit stop window regulation was no longer applicable, but each pilot still had to complete two mandatory pit stops per race. It was not allowed to stop in the first and last three laps of a race. A stop that was necessary due to a tire damage, for example, did not count as a mandatory pit stop.

Technically, the vehicles remained unchanged compared to the previous season. Only the rear tire was widened from 310 to 320 mm.

Teams and drivers

All teams used Hankook tires .
