The DTM AMG Mercedes C-Coupé is a prototype racing car from Daimler AG and its subsidiary AMG . The car was designed for exclusive use in the DTM and competed there from 2012 . The C-Coupé replaced the most successful racing car in DTM history with 84 victories in 156 races, the DTM AMG Mercedes C-Class . In 2015 the car was renamed the Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM .

technology

General

The body of the C-Coupé is based on the coupé version of the Mercedes-Benz 204 series . The prototype is constructed with a monocoque made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) with an integrated 120 liter fuel tank and steel roll cage. The racing car is powered by a naturally aspirated V8 engine with a displacement of four liters, with an output of around 368 kW (500 hp) at 7500 rpm and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. The manual transmission with six forward gears, which is standard for all DTM vehicles, is located together with the differential in the rear ( transaxle design) on the driven rear axle. All wheels are individually suspended on double wishbones. The brake system with carbon fiber reinforced brake discs is the same for all DTM participants.

Like the other DTM vehicles, the car has been equipped with a Drag Reduction System (DRS) since the 2013 season .

tires

The tires were supplied exclusively by Hankook Tire . Compared to the 2011 season , the tires have been enlarged. The front tires are 300 millimeters wide and 680 millimeters in diameter, while the rear tires are 320 millimeters wide and 710 millimeters in diameter. The tires have wing elements on the sidewalls for additional downforce. The 18-inch wheels forged from aluminum (twelve inches wide at the front and 13 inches at the rear) are also standard components.

Teams and drivers

In 2012, three teams deployed a total of eight vehicles. HWA competed with Jamie Green , Gary Paffett , Ralf Schumacher and Christian Vietoris . David Coulthard and Robert Wickens started for Mücke . Persson relied on Roberto Merhi and Susie Wolff .

For the 2013 season, Mercedes reduced the number of vehicles from eight to six. Paffett, Vietoris, Wickens and Merhi stayed in the squad. Pascal Wehrlein and Daniel Juncadella are newcomers .

For the 2014 season, Mercedes increased the number of vehicles to seven. Vitali Petrow and Paul di Resta were added as drivers, Merhi switched to Formula Renault 3.5 and also became test and replacement driver for Mercedes.

For the 2015 season, the number of vehicles was increased to eight again, and ART Grand Prix entered as a team. Lucas Auer and Maximilian Götz were added as drivers, Petrow left the driver squad after just one season.

In 2016 the number of vehicles remained at eight, with Esteban Ocon replacing the reigning DTM champion Wehrlein, who had switched to Manor in the Formula 1 World Championship .
