Friends of Dresden

Friends of Dresden Inc. is a New York City- based development association that was founded in 1994 with the aim of providing help for a future peaceful world and reconciliation with Germany, the former enemy of the war.

The association founded by the Nobel Prize winner Günter Blobel supports projects in Dresden to rebuild buildings and sights that were destroyed in the Second World War . The association raised funds to advance plans such as the construction of the Frauenkirche or the construction of the Dresden synagogue .

A branch is located in Dresden. In addition to supporting the New York-based association, the award of the Dresden Prize has been one of the tasks of the Friends of Dresden Germany eV since 2010 . The winners of the 25,000 euro prize include the composer Daniel Barenboim , who was honored in 2011.
